SOFA 2018: The Largest and Most Successful Show to Date

Chicago, Illinois (November 29, 2018) – SOFA Chicago has progressively transcended from the 58-exhibitor show from where it originally began 25 years ago to one of the most highly anticipated annual art shows in the Chicago area, specializing in sculptures and multidimensional art objects. The fair’s latest floor plan was well received by both exhibitors and attendees alike as patrons experienced an array of national and international galleries specializing in a plethora of mediums. With a rise of VIP exhibitor booths holding speaking events, fair partners saw record participation in addition to 9 out of 10 of our surveyed VIPs stating that they would highly recommend SOFA to a colleague. This year’s SOFA sponsors include, Chubb Personal Risk Services, Cadillac, Jadot as well as Antolini, the world’s largest producer of natural stones.

As the opening night attracted an expansive and enthusiastic crowd at Navy Pier, attendees were given an evening to remember. SOFA hosted a multitude of art patrons, museum groups, curators, and collectors worldwide. The show has become a staple event for the press as well including coverage from sources such as The Chicago Tribune and Craft Council. For many, the 2018 SOFA show was a new, eye-opening experience. Cynthia Reeves says, “As a first-time presenter at the SOFA Fair, I was impressed by the diversity of media and disciplines on view.” She continues, “I was pleased by the attention paid to the fine art I installed to complement the dimensional works – a lovely experience overall”.

Alec Longmuir with Melissa Morgan Fine Art stated, “The quality of the collectors at SOFA was outstanding and we sold out our booth. In addition to collectors, major museum participation allowed us to make new contacts which will lead to a museum acquisition.” While the 25th year show may have been a fresh, new experience for many, Jack Gran with The Society of American Mosaic Artists has said “For nearly 10 years, the Society of American Mosaic Artists has partnered with SOFA Expo to expand awareness of the beauty and creative diversity evolving within the contemporary mosaic art movement”. Jack later goes on to describe his experience with the fair as “One of our key outreach programs with proven benefits for the organization and our members.”
