In the early 1980’s Ann opened Objects Gallery. An eclectic meeting place for diverse talents, Objects Gallery housed folk art, collectibles, antiques, sculpture, and paintings. During the early years of the gallery, Ann was one of the original founders and investors of the SOFA exhibition, which grew from the Sheraton hotel to a preeminent art fair attracting craft dealers and collectors from across the globe.
Ann’s gallery, along with 8 other galleries, fell victim to a devastating fire in April 1989. Never one to run from hard work or adversity, Ann pressed on and re-opened her space in the Merchandise Mart exactly two weeks after the destruction. After four moves in the early 90’s, the gallery opened its doors as Ann Nathan Gallery at 212 West Superior.
Now operating for almost 35 years, Ann Nathan’s gallery has earned an international reputation for its selection of contemporary artists and is a vital force in the Chicago art scene. She is a member of the Chicago Art Dealer’s Association and the Arts Club of Chicago.
Ann is well-known and respected for her no-nonsense attitude, direct approach, and honesty. She and Walter have 4 children – all successful in their own right – and 14 grandchildren. She is still as busy as ever to keep the show on the road.
