The elegant evening will be a feast for the palate as well as the eye. The theme for the Gala is “A Taste of New York,” featuring delights from some of New York’s finest restaurants including Il Gattopardo, specializing in rustic classics from Naples and its surround, like cabbage-wrapped meatballs and braised baby escarole filled with minced black olive, anchovy, and pine nuts; and Austro-Hungarian specialities from Danube, David Bouley's Klimptian restaurant in Tribeca, renowned for his “near perfect” Wiener schnitzel and “airy” palatschinke, the classic Hungarian pancake. I
Hot and sweet from Stephen Hanson and Executive Chef Scott Linquist’s Dos Caminos, upscale Mexican cuisine with innovative ingredients like earthy huitlacoche-mushroom masa tarts and hot banana crepes with goat cheese caramel; and the venerable French bistro flare of La Mirabelle, prepared by Annick Le Douaron and her family of transplanted Bretons, like roasted duckling with Mirabelle plums and sweetbreads “as rich and satisfying as any on the Continent.” II

“Jubilee! 50 Years on 53rd Street”,
Special Exhibit at SOFA NEW
YORK 2006 |
In celebration of its 50th year of leadership in promoting the value of materials and mastery of process in contemporary arts, MAD will present a special anniversary exhibit at SOFA NEW YORK entitled Jubilee! 50 years on 53rd Street, displaying masterworks from each decade since the Museum opened in 1956, all from its permanent collection. Featured artists include Lenore Tawney, Peter Voulkos, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Arneson, Dale Chihuly, Cindy Sherman and Frank Gehry, among many others. Presented in the form of a timeline, the exhibit documents the history of contemporary arts during a half-century of dramatic change, documenting decade by decade, the art, people, and events that shaped MAD’s collective vision.
Support MAD’s programming and progress on the construction of its new home at Two Columbus Circle at the Gala’s silent auction (5 to 10 pm) of outstanding art, donated by artists and other friends of MAD.
Join an estimated 800 top collectors, museum curators and arts cognoscenti and over 300 artists represented by SOFA NEW YORK 2006 galleries and dealers at the Opening Night Gala for a “first look, first choice” of artworks for sale at the exposition. READ MORE ON SOFA NEW YORK 2006.
