Courtesey of Leo Kaplan Modern |
His
current sculpture returns to the vessel as his poetic influence,
incorporating his interest in found objects with his love for
the literal and figurative sea. His Buoy Series starts
with weather beaten fisherman's buoys found along the Rhode
Island coast; Weinberg then casts them in colored crystal and
finishes them with a solemn, metallic patina. As a related exploration,
Weinberg's Isobar Series reinterprets boat hulls in
idealized crystal cross sections, juxtaposing the perfection
of the exterior design with an interior elegy to the interface
of air and water that is perfectly expressed through the strategic
use of color, bubbles, veils and surface treatments.
