In celebration of its first 100 years, The Hispanic Society of America, in cooperation with the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute of New York City, has prepared this centennial exhibition of 75 master works of Spanish from Goya to the early twentieth century. Many of the later works in the exhibition were acquired directly from the artists by Mr. Huntington and have never been shown in the United States outside the Society’s galleries, although a group of the pictures were recently exhibited at three cities in Spain to enormous success. A special feature of the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute presentation will be the exhibition of eleven drawings by Francisco Goya, spanning the entire course of his career.
