Louis
Comfort Tiffany opened a factory in Corona, Queens, where he
produced decorative and colorful lamps and windows made from
stained glass. By using special chemicals and methods, he was
able to produce thousands of colors and surfaces in the glass.
Tiffany’s works are usually associated with Art Nouveau,
a style which uses designs inspired by nature. If you look closely,
you will notice trees, flowers and insects incorporated into
his works. The works on view are part of the Egon and Hildegard
Neustadt Museum Collection. Dr. Neustadt began collecting Tiffany
lamps in 1935, when his works were out of fashion and inexpensive.
In recent years they have again become highly valued by art
collectors. The Neustadt Collection includes lamps and windows,
and some are on extended loan to the Queens Museum of Art.
