New
York, N.Y. – A group exhibition of works in
metal by contemporary American enamellists opens Thursday, April
29 at Aaron Faber Gallery, 666 Fifth Avenue on West 53rd Street.
The exhibition, 65 pieces in all, features jewelry and sculptural
objects by 16 enamel artists. These pieces range from a 5”
silver enameled vase titled “Earth Beneath Our Feet Rattlesnake
Vase” by Texas artist Harlan Butt to Marian Slepian’s
delightful “Hot Air Balloon” sculpture in richly colorful
cloisonné enamel.

Higashi [California] contributes a scarlet red enamel
panel bracelet and painterly grid brooches in subdued palette
of brown and dark red; Jessica Calderwood, [California],
shows her narrative/pictorial works in enamel, exploring drawing
combined with enamel; Melissa Huff [Illinois] explores
her subtle palette of browns and grays in botanically-inspired
brooches delicately formed in copper; Marianne Hunter [California]
celebrates her technical wizardry in “Kachina” pendants
that incorporate grisaille enamel and rich gem-like enamel and
gemstones; Linda Darty [North Carolina] and Marjorie
Simon [New Jersey] exhibit refreshingly bold flower brooches
and necklaces in colorful matte enamels; Judy Stone [California]
builds copper forms into sculptural vessels that are sewn, riveted
and cut and then enameled in brilliant matte colors.

Larissa
Podgoretz [Israel] demonstrates her mastery of Limoges
enamel in her ethereal portraits and landscapes; Erica Druin [New
Jersey] is a second generation enamellist working in three-dimensional
cloisonné and following in the footsteps of her mother
and mentor, Marilyn Druin, whose works are also on display; Alana
Clearlake [California] is inspired by the marine forms
and colors of the California coast; Karen Ehrhardt [California]
uses transparent enamels over silver to create delicately colored
bracelets; Richard McMullen [Massachusetts] and Sydney
Scherr [North Carolina] create bold necklaces and brooches
in 18K gold and gem-like enamels; Fredricka Kulicke [New Jersey]
uses high karat gold and gemstones in her jewels, highlighted
by transparent enamels.
